As the patriarch of our family games nights, it almost required that if you’re going to get my dad a gift, a new game will always be a winner (pun completely intended). Of course, the reason I bring this up is that he was gifted a new card game and it is amazing — and infuriating. It’s called DOS and what I would refer to as the “sister” game to UNO. If you don’t know what UNO is, then you have done yourself a disservice. It’s one of my family’s go-to game when everyone’s together, which is probably why my sister got him DOS.
Mattel describes does as UNO’S “best friend,”(*1) in which the goal is still to get rid of all your cards but instead of yelling “UNO,” with one card left, you have to yell “DOS” when you have two left. Simple, right? Wrong. In this version, there are two card piles in addition to the discard pile and instead of matching the color and number, you only have to match the number. However, if you manage to match both, you get bonus points. Surprisingly enough, I would still recommend the original card game compared to this. Simply put — it’s just not as fun. There’s no +4 to piss people off or skips or anything. What’s the point in that?
Don’t get me wrong, DOS is still entertaining at the end of the day, but it’s not my number one choice. In fact, Mattel has come up with a bunch of different versions for the fun game, one of which is a personal favorite — UNO Flip. Talk about a game to drive the whole family mad…In addition, they also have UNO for your favorite TV shows and movies, such as The Office and Harry Potter. I’ve been tempted to get the Harry Potter one for a while. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…
