Is there anything more summer-y than going berry picking? The berries are at their prime and never taste more delicious! Plus, the smell of the farm when you get there is amazing — particularly when you go raspberry picking…I can still smell the fruit from here!
If anyone is looking for an activity that is completely fun, yet totally relaxing, this is it. Since it’s the summer, my mom and I chose to go picking in the morning. One, because it’s coolest in the mornings (duh) and two, it’s basically empty at the fields so you can really get into your element. We did two separate days for berry picking. Blueberries came first. We went around seven in the morning and it was so great. It was quiet since it was just us and the sound of the birds plus the sun just coming out of the shadows to welcome the morning was unreal. If I could vote for any morning to stay as long as it possibly could, it would’ve been that morning.
The second trip was for raspberry picking. Believe it or not, we go to different farms as well for the different berries. Sometimes the blueberry crop is better at one farm than it is for the raspberries. Price is also a factor, but all in all, picking your own fruit is significantly cheaper than buying the tiny pints at the store. On top of that, the taste of the berries, especially the raspberries, are noticeably different. When picking your own raspberries, you’ll find they taste one hundred times better than what you can buy at your grocery store.
If you’ve never gone berry picking, it’s worth a try. It’s a great way to get your Vitamin D and feel self-sufficient (in a way). It’s also a great activity to do with kids. The amount of families I see berry picking is great. The kids seem to love it and I’m sure you all will too!
