I have to say, Halloween in quarantine is not the worst thing in the world. Not only do you get to keep all the candy for yourself, but you can also use it as an excuse to set yourself up in front of the television and watch your favorite Halloween movies without any interruptions. My list included Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Even Marnie, in her Poopsie Roll costume (I mean, how cute is she!?) snuggled right up next to me as we chilled for the night. However, before I could enjoy any of that, I realized that I made one major Halloween fail — I had yet to carve my pumpkin.
I have to say, I’m pretty disappointed in myself. I specifically chose a template that was “Easy” because I’m not the best at carving pumpkins. Last year, I chose a template that was labeled “Medium” in terms of how hard it would be to carve, which turned out great if I do say so myself. So imagine my surprise when this “easy” template turned out to be not-so-easy.
I found the most adorable template (found here) of Simba from The Lion King. Combine that with my love of Disney and you’ve got a winner, right? Well, not in my case. Like a proper dingbat, I ended up tracing the lines of the template too close to one another and it cracked — just as I was finishing, mind you. My mom suggested that I try sticking the pieces back together with toothpicks, which worked pretty well, but it’s definitely not the image I intended the pumpkin to look like.
Nevertheless, the point of this activity was to have fun and get in the Halloween spirit, which I definitely accomplished. At the end of the day, the only one that’s really going to care about it is me. And hey, it does give me something to laugh at, right? Take a look at my FAB-U-LOUS pumpkin and let me know what you think!
What did you do for Halloween?
