Christmas Baking Galore!

So…I did a lot more baking than I thought I would. It took me and my mom two weekends (both Saturdays and Sundays) to bake the amount that we wanted/needed. Every year, we make cookies for both our family members and our close friends and this year was no different — except for the amount. As it turns out, we had a LOT of cookies that we wanted to bake.

First up was our classic — the sugar cookie. We baked two and a half batches, which probably equates to about one hundred cookies (depending on the cutouts and size you want). We did not expect to have to make that much, but everyone in the house kept sneaking some to nibble on that we didn’t have enough for the people we wanted to send them to. In addition, we also made Mexican wedding cakes, two batches of gingerbread cookies, and, of course, the infamous Never Fail Fudge. I honestly can’t believe that we did it all, but we did. It’s doing these things every year that make Christmas what it is in our family. If we skipped a year, I think Christmas would feel a little off, you know?

I’ll tell you, I don’t know how bakeries do it. I was exhausted after two days of nonstop baking. They have to do it day-in and day-out, and not just making cookies but all kinds of baked goods. AND they have to get up early and probably stay late to prep for the next day, so this post is dedicated to all the bakers out there — I COMMEND YOU AND I LOVE YOU. I don’t think I could do it. Regardless, my mom and I made these past two weekends really fun. We played Christmas music, danced with Marnie Mae (who may or may not have gotten a little taste of some of the cookies), and baked to our heart’s content. Of course, our baking days are far from over. With Christmas right around the corner, we have plenty of cooking and baking to keep us busy. On to the next batch…
