As I’ve gotten older, Earth Day has become more and more important to me. I guess that just comes with realizing how much help the Earth really needs right now. As a kid, Earth Day was just something we did in school. More importantly, it usually took the place of a class, so it was a happy distraction. However, whatever we did during my school days was unfortunately lost on me because it never held my interest. I just always assumed that the Earth would be fine. That it could take care of itself.
How wrong was I?
After reading and watching a lot of different documentaries and books. regarding this particular subject, I was actually surprised at how easy it is to do your part to help protect the Earth. Most of the time, it doesn’t even cost anything to do it. Recycling is obviously the easiest. That is the one thing I do remember learning in school. Recycling is so, so good for our planet. It reduces the number of resources we’re wasting and keeps the waters clean from harmful things that can kill the beautiful creatures in the water, plus much more.
Nevertheless, for this Earth Day, and for the past few Earth Days, my mom and I plant a tree in our backyard. This year, it was a Pear Tree!! Selfishly, we’re obsessed with trees. When we go on walks together, we try to see how many different trees we can name. Regardless, we plant a new one every year as part of the way to help bring life into our planet. I’m not saying everyone has to go out and plant a tree, but I urge you to just be a little more conscious of taking care of our planet. We still have the power to make our planet healthy and what could be better than that?
