Father of the Bride 3(ish)

Updated: Mar 14, 2021

Did anyone get to check this out!? Just a week ago, it was announced that the entire cast of The Father of the Bride was going to reunite for a special hosted by Netflix and Youtube. Within the first ten seconds, I was already sold. With a glass of wine in my hand, I hunkered down in my room to watch this glorious reunion.

Written and directed by the INCREDIBLE Nancy Meyers, not only did we get the original cast back, but we also got a few surprises including Robert DeNiro, Florence Pugh, Ben Platt, and Alexandra Shipp. As the special begins, Reese Witherspoon is there to introduce the special and the reason it was created — to benefit World Central Kitchen, which is amazing!

In this special, we find the Banks family all reuniting on Zoom to catch up. However, in a surprise twist, their middle child, Matty, explains that he wants to marry his fiancé, Rachel (Shipp) right there on Zoom, with all his family watching. When he asks Rachel if she’s up to it, not only does he surprise her with her Dad (DeNiro) appearing on the call, he also brings in Franck (Martin Short) to officiate. I won’t spoil anymore, but I will say that aside from Franck’s parts, Steve Martin’s reaction to the Zoom wedding had me crying with laughter. Not only is it true to the character, but it defiantly pays homage to the first two films.

While this special is just under half an hour, it was such a treat. It also made me eager for an actual movie with this entire cast. How bomb would that be? While that probably won’t happen, I’m so happy Nancy Meyers gave us this gem. If any of you didn’t catch, feel free to catch out the video below! Enjoy!
