For all you fur-parents out there, you know how bad vet appointments can be — even when it’s just a regular check-up. Most of the time, you get no cooperation from them whatsoever. They try to run at every possible chance. Some may even try to hide in the room. However, none of that compares to when you have to take your baby for their yearly shots, am I right?
If your fur-baby is anything like Marnie, I’m sorry. The guilt she makes me feel for taking her is unreal. On top of being so stressed that she begins to shake, she tries to run out the door every time the veterinarian comes through. And this says nothing about our vet because she’s the freaking best! She spends time playing with Marnie before AND after the appointment in an effort to get her relaxed and happy. It’s honestly just Marnie. She’s too smart. As soon as we walk in the building, she knows what we’re there for. This time was no different.
Per usual, Marnie had to get her Flu and Lyme, among a couple of others and she was not happy. Fortunately, it was over within minutes and we were on our way. Even though she didn’t like it, she handled it like a pro. Since we’ve been going, the vet has me stand in front of Marnie while she is giving her shots. This is so she can see me while I talk to her and tell her what a good girl she is and how she’s going to get a treat when we’re finished. It works wonders! Marnie is so much calmer when she can see AND hear me. For any of you who have anxious fur-babies, this would be an interesting thing to try if you haven’t already when you’re taking them for their appointments.
Suffice to say, both Marnie and I were very happy when we got back in the car to go home. While Marnie was sore in the areas where she was given the shots, I made sure that she was very comfortable back home, because that’s what good moms do, right? I also feel the need to mention that this appointment could have happened on her birthday a few weeks ago, but I didn’t want her to be sore on the big day, so I rescheduled it for the end of the month. Is that not being a good mommy? Not that she’ll ever know…Regardless, my baby is healthy and ready to take on the next year in stride, and I, for one, could not be happier that we don't have to go through this for another whole year.
