So, Marnie and I have been together for over three years now and there is one thing that still blows my mind — her compulsive need to destroy every toy she is given. For her birthday last month, I gave her these little squirrels with squeakers in them and I’m not kidding when I say that by the next day, at least one was torn apart and another was almost completely dead. Is this normal or is Marnie secretly a psychotic murderer of toys?
As I write this, Marnie lays on the floor in front of me with said squirrel in her mouth — the only one left with a squeaker in it. I can see her teeth press into the squeaker with determination. She is hell-bent to kill that squeaker. My only question is why? I thought dogs loved squeaky toys? Is part of that “love” the thrill of finally getting it to stop squeaking? It sure seems that way with Marnie. I’ve considered sewing the toys back up with the squeaker in them, but what’s the point? She’s going to destroy it within the day anyway, right?
Marnie is an endless stream of confusion and entertainment and I freaking love her. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a little worrisome in the sense that I’m not sure what’s actually going on in her mind when she decides to completely rip these things apart, but all I can say is that I’m glad she keeps that need to destroy on her own toys and not mine. At the end of the day, all I can do is ask myself the following — Is it funny to watch Marnie ruthlessly attack and destroy her toys? Yes. Does it worry me? A little bit. Is this normal? God, I hope so.
If any of you go through the same things with your fur-baby, let me know because I think it’s the funniest/craziest thing to see your dog do! Wouldn’t you agree? Let me know in the comments below!
