Marnie Mae: New Year, Same Dog

Happy 2021, everyone! We’re already in the middle of January, can you believe it? So far, it’s be an eventful few weeks, wouldn’t you agree? Marnie herself is currently snuggled up next to me on the couch as I write this. With a fire in the fireplace, Avengers: Endgame on the television, and a mug of hot cocoa, it’s a pretty perfect day if I do say so myself — and I do.

For those who don’t know, Marnie had a ruptured eardrum towards the end of last year. Thankfully, with the care of some great veterinarians, she has recovered and is on medication to help her. The only “annoyance” on my end is Marnie’s aversion to her ear drops. The moment she sees the bottle in my hand, she ducks under the couch or goes to hide in her uncle’s arms. Apparently, she’s under the impression that I can’t get to her there. In a way, she’s not wrong. I have to lift the couch up off the floor before I can get to her, which she doesn’t seem to remember, even though it happens every.single.night. I would say that’s the ONE downside to small dogs — they can hide anywhere. At the same time, it’s incredibly entertaining and I wouldn't change it for the world.

With everything that happened with her ears, that was enough of an excuse to really ham it up for the holidays. As a Christmas gift from Santa, Marnie received a few squeaky toys that she is absolutely in love with. They’re little polar pears that are small enough to fit into her mouth. The only problem is that she refuses to play with any of her other toys. I’m not even kidding. Her previous “favorite” toy was a tiny squeaky squirrel that she got from her aunt. Now when we play fetch, the only toy she’ll bring back is the panda bears. It’s adorable but also incredibly infuriating. Does anyone else's dog do this?

I have to say, 2021 has been a blessing in and of itself. Marnie is on the mend and continues to keep me on my toes. In terms of what’s ahead, we learned from last year and are going to take things in stride. The only thing I know for sure is that her fourth birthday this year is going to be LIT and that’s mostly because I have six months to plan it…Other than that, we’re focusing on being healthy and happy. Here’s to 2021!

How have the first few weeks of 2021 been for you? Keep me posted in the comments below!
