MARNIE MAE TURNS THREE!!

I can’t believe it’s been three years with this little one!

I say this all the time, but it was really fate that I found Marnie. Not only was she born the week that I moved away, but her birthdays is literally five days apart from mine. She was so little when I adopted her from the humane society that her whole body could fit into the palm of my hand. The first time I saw her, I knew that she was coming home with me. I remember the day that I brought her home. I had already bought her a couple of toys, a cute bed and a pen that would be right next to my bed. The minute she was laid in my hand, I refused to let her go. I’m not exaggerating when I say I almost cried in public. That’s how special she was to me, and I had only known her for thirty seconds. The whole ride home, as she lay in her carrier, I couldn’t help but talk to her about everything and anything — how much I loved her, how nice her new home was, etc. From that moment on, it was me and her, together forever.

And now she’s THREE. I honestly don’t know where the time has gone. All I do know is that it was time to celebrate my little munchkin with a puppy party. The first thing on the list was to make her a pup-cake (recipe will be posted next week). I make her a little one every year and she loves it. I also treated her with a mini pup-sickle. I froze a little vanilla ice cream and let her have at it as we played outside. Playing was a huge part of Marnie’s birthday. Basically, the day went like this: PLAY, PLAY, PLAY, EAT, PLAY, PLAY, PRESENTS, PLAY, SLEEP. If anyone knows where dogs get all their energy, I would love to know because Marnie is like the damn energizer bunny. Regardless, while the night ended with more playtime, I did sneak in some gifts. I don’t get her a lot because she’s a creature of habit. She has her favorite toys, which she is fiercely loyal to, which means any other toys she gets are ignored until her current favorite is completely destroyed. In fact, her gift from me this year was a replacement for one of her favorite toys from about a year ago. It’s a log with little squirrels that you can stick in them. She played with the original toy squirrels so much that she ripped them apart. Hopefully, these toy squirrels will last a little longer than the previous bunch.

All in all, I think Marnie Mae had a really good day. She got her favorite treats and a fun new toy, plus a full day of playtime. What could be better than that?

Do any of you have fur-babies? If so, how do you celebrate their birthdays? Let me know in the comments below!
