Movie of the Week: A Christmas Kiss

Now that Christmas in July is over and we’re officially into August, I thought it might be really fun to review all the Hallmark Christmas movies I hadn’t seen before Hallmark played them during the month of July this year. The first one on the docket is A Christmas Kiss.

Staring Laura Breckenridge and Brendan Fehr, this film follows a young woman named Wendy (Breckenridge) who is an aspiring designer in Boston. One evening, she ends up kissing a man she meets in an elevator, only to find out that he is her boss’s boyfriend. Of course, he doesn’t recognize her, which puts her in a very uncomfortable position. As you can imagine, a lot of problems ensue, but in true Hallmark fashion, all works out in the end. In general, I found this to be a really cute Christmas movie. That doesn’t mean that there weren’t issues with it, but it has a lot of what one might be looking for in a Christmas movie — Christmas decorating to start, with great scenery and, of course, a Christmas romance. If I can say anything it’s that Hallmark definitely has the Christmas movie formula down.

The only thing that really bugged me enough to write about was the boss’s boyfriend, Adam (Fehr). His whole storyline revolves around his uncertainty in proposing to his girlfriend because he had this amazing kiss in the elevator with a “stranger.” He essentially cheated on his girlfriend that he was going to propose to. If I were Wendy, I wouldn’t even want him anymore. There’s something about this romance that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Wouldn’t you agree? Of course, it takes Adam until the end of the movie to realize that his girlfriend isn’t very nice and that Wendy is his “Cinderella,” for all intents and purposes. Does that sound like a romantic guy to you? Because to me, this sounds like a guy who needs to spend some time with himself before he jumps into another relationship... Okay, back to "Hallmark Reality."

Upon some research, I discovered that this film was released in 2011! It’s actually kind of amazing how far back this movie dates. I guess it just goes to show that Hallmark really has been “The Heart of Christmas” for quite a while. Regardless, this movie is a solid one if you're in the mood to start getting in the Christmas spirit. While I do hold a grudge, albeit a small grudge, against this romance, Wendy’s best friends and her eye for Christmas design make up for it. Both of her best friends make this film seem more realistic with the way they have her back and vice versa which is what makes this movie enjoyable! I would definitely put this movie on the watchlist! I hope you enjoy it!

If any of you have already seen this film, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
