I’ll be honest. The only thing that had me hooked in this movie was the dog.
Is that surprising?
It shouldn’t be.
While the movie wasn’t bad, it just didn’t keep me invested. For me, this movie is one that you can have on in the background while you work on other things. You can watch it, but if you miss some parts, it won’t kill you. Besides, you’ll probably guess the ending before we even get through the first half of the move (granted, that can be said for most Hallmark movies).
Starring Taylor Cole and Ryan Paevey, Matching Hearts follows Julie (Cole) who is a professional matchmaker, and Daniel (Paevey), the new guy in town, whom Julie tries to convince to enlist in their matchmaking services. While Daniel is hesitant to do it, he reluctantly agrees after much persistence on Julie's part. However, things get a little complicated once Julie realizes that she’s fallen in love with him and, being that he’s her client, can’t act on her feelings. If the title is any indication, I’m sure you can see where this goes, so I won’t say any more.
While it may sound like I’m totally “hating” on this movie, I’m really not. It’s not bad. If you watch it, you’ll still be watching an entertaining movie. However, out of all the “Valentine’s-themed” movies Hallmark has put out in the past, it’s not my number one. Cole and Paevey do a great job acting-wise and really carry the film together. Cole, especially, really sells her character and makes you sympathize with her as she navigates her new feelings for Daniel. A Hallmark movie through and through, Matching Hearts, while a little watered down compared to its predecessors on the channel, still lives up to its Valentine's-themed movies. With love and a little mystery, this one blends in nicely into Hallmark’s collection.
