Movie of the Week: The Other Woman

Updated: Jul 8, 2020

This movie is one of my absolute favorites! Starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton, this film follows Carly (Diaz) who finds out that her “perfect” boyfriend is married when she shows up to his house only to meet his wife, Kate (Mann). When Kate realizes what is going on, she confronts Carly only to discover that her husband has not only been cheating her or Carly but on another woman as well — Amber (Upton). The three women then decide to team up and get the ultimate revenge — and boy do they have fun.

I actually can’t remember how I came across this. I didn’t see it in the theater, but I’m pretty sure I saw the DVD on sale at Target years ago and thought this would be a good one to watch for movie night. I also could’ve just made that story up in my head, but there’s a 75% chance that that’s how it happened. Nevertheless, once I watched this, I knew instantly it was going to be a highlight in my movie collection. As one of my go-to’s for the perfect summer movie, I watch this film at least fifty times before the season is over. Is that too excessive?

I think the best part of this movie is the friendship between the three women. Instead of it being a movie about women hating on women, it’s actually about them bonding over this crazy situation that they’ve been put in. They have each other’s back and, in the end, they end up with something that none of them could’ve expected. True to form, this romantic comedy does not disappoint with the ending. Without spoiling anything (though it may be predictable), the girls all get the happy ending they deserve.

I could go on about how most of this movie is predictable as it follows the romantic comedy plot to a tee, but that doesn’t really bother me. I didn’t choose to watch this because I wanted to be surprised. I chose it because I wanted to be entertained and this movie didn’t let me down. With a great cast, a funny and heartwarming storyline, and a friendship that is full of love and empowerment, you really can’t go wrong with this film. Mark my words, once you watch it, you’ll want to see it at least 500 more times. Let me know what you think about this film in the comments below! Enjoy!
