This is one of my all-time favorite Mary-Kate and Ashley movies. You’ve got London, cute boys, romance and a little bit of competition to make it the perfect movie. Mary-Kate and Ashley star as Chloe and Riley Lawerence respectively, two teens who are sent to London for the United Nations Competition. Along with their team, they end up representing the United Kingdom after discovering that another team is already representing their usual country China.
Chloe, the ultra-competitive sister, meets James Browning, played by Jesse Spencer. The two embark on a semi-secret romance as he is also a competitor in the UN competition. Riley on the other hand is hoping that she will find romance with her long time crush Brian, played by Brandon Tyler. Like most Mary-Kate and Ashley movies, this gave me false hope as a kid when it came to romance. I just assumed that on my first trip to London, I would meet a super cute guy who would defy his father to be with me. Real Romeo and Juliet stuff (without the dying), you know? Regardless, I still love it. For years, James was one of my main crushes after watching this film (over and over again).
I think my favorite part in this movie is when all the teams have to “negotiate” with one another to get some of their team members back after they are taken hostage, all of which is part of the competition. It is, of course, Riley and Brandon who pull a “James Bond” moment as they rescue the hostages. From kissing in an air duct to reconciling in a hotel room (don't worry, this is a kid film), this movie really delivers.
Aside from that, there are plenty of other memorable moments in this movie. From trying to get the Queen’s Guards to laugh to eating tiny finger sandwiches, I promise you that this is one you’re sure to love. I also feel the need to mention Mary-Kate and Ashley’s fashion in the film. My favorite is the outfits both of them are wearing on the cover, but there are so many more that you just have to see for yourself.
Before I end this, I’m just curious — for all of you who watched Mary-Kate and Ashley movies religiously as I did, which sister did you relate to more? I favored myself to be more like Mary-Kate but my sister was dead-set that she was an Ashley. There’s nothing wrong with either of them, but I just wonder if other people always did this when watching their movies? In my opinion, Mary-Kate always got the cuter guy (except in Holiday in the Sun). 😂
Now that I’ve written about my love for this movie, I’m going to promptly start a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie marathon, starting with Passport to Paris and working my way up.
