As much as I love Brooke D’Orsay and Samuel Page, I didn't fall in love with this film. It wasn’t that it was horrible as much as it was just dull. I’ve seen this story multiple times before and I just wasn’t in the mood to see it again. A Godwink Christmas: Second Chance, First Love follows Pat (Page) as he moves home with his two sons after selling his business. As Godwink would have it, he runs into his old high school sweetheart, Margie, a Vice President at the company she’s worked at since she was young, who also has a penchant for losing jewelry anytime she wears it. When the two keep bumping into one another, sparks immediately begin to fly and both must figure out how to make a relationship work when so much of their professional lives are up in the air.
I think the cutest part of this film is the fact that it’s a true story. I’ll admit, I do feel bad for calling this story dull in that respect, so I’ll revise that by saying that watching both Pat and Margie struggle with their professional lives was boring, but watching them fall in love with each other all over again semi-made up for it. I will also say that because this is based on a true story, it’s probably the most realistic Christmas film on Hallmark yet, which is what I actually look for in a Hallmark movie.
Of course, this film ends in the most Godwink way. If the first two films in the series are any indication, this movie was going to be no different when it came to the characters finding their way to each other. Whether it’s coincidence or fate, they both end up getting jobs based in Seattle. As the end of the film explains, they both lived the ultimate dream — they fell in love, had a bunch of grandchildren, and believe that Godwink had a lot to do with their happily ever after. Is that not adorable or what?
If you’re in the mood for a sweet love story surrounded by the merriment of Christmas, then this is the film for you. It may not be anything extraordinary or over-the-top festive, but I guess not every Christmas film has to be, right? With some great actors and a very believable and true romance, A Godwink Christmas: Second Chance, First Love is sure to live up to the original two that premiered the years before.
