You all know how much I love Merritt Patterson, so it was already a given that I was going to tune into this movie, but then you add in Luke Macfarlane!? Watching this movie became a no-brainer. Chateau Christmas follows Margo (Patterson), a renowned pianist, as she comes home for Christmas, only to run into her old flame, Jackson (Macfarlane) who is desperate to cast her in his Christmas concert. The only problem is that Margo has come to a standstill with her playing, coming off of a bad review, so when she agrees to join forces with Jackson, the last thing she expects is to start falling for him while finding her passion for playing reignited in the process. Not only that but she and Jackson must team up to find other notable musicians to play for the concert in nine days, otherwise, they’ll have to cancel.
The best part about this film, aside from the actors, was the music. In many ways, it was the third lead in this Christmas film. Most of the time, when characters are “experts” in something such as cooking or in this case, playing musical instruments, it’s normally not the actors playing them (or at least not them the WHOLE time). However, that was not the case for Macfarlane. Just take a look at his Instagram for proof. Much like his character Jackson, Macfarlane plays the cello with practiced ease. He’s literally sooo good! While promoting this movie on Home & Family, Patterson admitted that while she learned how to play the piano a little bit for the film, she was nowhere close to Macfarlane's level of playing. In fact, she said that in between filming, she would sit outside his trailer and just listen to him play. How sweet!
So far, this movie has definitely made the top of the list for Hallmark’s Countdown. It’s got a sweet love story, a little cookie decorating, a fun snowball fight, and beautiful Christmas music to bring the whole family together. Patterson and Macfarlane definitely bring this movie to life and I for one can only hope that they get to do more films together.
