Lacey Chabert does it again! In her latest Hallmark Christmas movie, she stars with Will Kemp, her Love, Romance & Chocolate co-star, in a movie that follows her as Avery, a woman whose engagement just ended suddenly and unexpectedly. Sadly, she had just signed herself and her ex-fiancee up for dance lessons at the local dance studio. However, when she goes to cancel said lessons, she meets Roman (Kemp), one of the dance instructors, who encourages her to not only keep the lessons but also helps Avery find her passion for dance once again. While they learn to dance the waltz, they find more than they could have ever hoped, realizing that their partnership may just bloom in real life as well as on the stage.
I thought this movie was so cute! Just with the opening itself, I knew this was going to be fun. The intro gave me La La Land vibes with the silhouettes of the couples dancing in between the Christmas lights — so gorgeous! The dance studio alone was decked out with Christmas cheer that even I was tempted to sign up for dance classes as long as I was promised to work in a dance studio as pretty as that one. In fact, the film as a whole was so beautifully set that I have to give props to the director of photography and the designers of each scene in the film. Everything looked so beautiful on-screen that it made the movie that much more enjoyable!
Chabert and Kemp already proved that they have great chemistry opposite one another on-screen, so watching them as Avery and Roman was a lot of fun. That being said, Kemp really surprised me in this one. As the dance instructor, one would hope that the actor can actually dance, and Kemp did not disappoint. Even without researching, I could tell that Kemp was a trained dancer. His flexibility and fluidity were apparent as soon as he started dancing with Chabert. Watching the two of them together was so sweet. Maybe it’s because I was already familiar with them as actors, but as soon as their characters met, I was immediately hooked on their love story.
The only irritation that I had with this movie was the ending — it ended too briefly and I wanted more! As Avery and Roman dance the waltz, they share a kiss and bow in front of the audience — then it fades to black. WHAT!? I wanted to see them celebrating or joining their friends and family after the show. Either way, it felt weird to end it that way, but what can you do? If that’s the only annoyance, I think I’ll survive.
I absolutely loved this film! With all the festive Christmas lights in the city, a beautiful dance number, and a sweet romance to fill your time, Christmas Waltz definitely delivers. Chabert and Kemp play their parts to a T and I’m really rooting for the both of them to do even more Hallmark movies together! What about you all? Did you like this film?
