Movie Review: Deliver by Christmas

I’m saying this now in the hopes that putting it out into the universe will make it happen: Eion Bailey and Alvina August need to be in more Hallmark movies. Deliver By Christmas closed out the first weekend of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas movies and I absolutely loved it. With the baking and a cute kid who’s adamant to make his dad happy, this is a can’t- miss.

Deliver by Christmas tells the story of Molly (August), a baker, who meets a widowed father, Josh (Bailey), and his son, Charlie, who have just moved to town for a fresh start. Trying to make this Christmas a special one for his son, Josh realizes that when it comes to baking cookies, he may need some help. When he calls Molly’s bakery, he doesn’t realize that the one person who he’s starting to fall in love with over the phone is the same person who has also charmed him in real life. This film has got You’ve Got Mail vibes all over it. From the widowed father and his son moving to a new area to the more obvious phone calls between Molly and Josh, who, of course, don’t know that it’s the other they're talking to, you can’t help but root for both of them. The only difference is that they aren’t at war with one another throughout the film, which makes this film all the more sweeter.

I’m going to be honest (although I’m pretty sure you could guess) — if you put baking or cooking as a main component in any film, let alone a Christmas film, I’m more than likely going to love it. Then you add in a really sweet kid and I’m done. Aside from all of that, the one thing that I’m glad Hallmark added to this story was their appreciation for the soldiers who are overseas and can’t be home for the holidays. They’ve done this in quite a few of their Christmas films in years past and I hope they don’t stop. I think it’s so important to remember those who are sacrificing themselves day in and day out to protect us, especially during a time when everyone else is celebrating with their loved ones.

While this movie ends in typical fashion, as I’m sure you could imagine, that didn’t stop me from enjoying this gem one little bit. Deliver By Christmas is one film that I’m already desperate to re-watch, which is good because I recorded it in anticipation that I would want to watch it again. I think Bailey and August really hit it out of the park in this one. Now I can only sit here and hope that they’ll be in another Christmas one next year…
