I think the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel may have taken the cake this weekend in terms of my favorite premieres. With Meet Me At Christmas and The Christmas Doctor in the lineup this weekend, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed these films, despite the level of Christmas festivities being substantially less compared to Christmas in Vienna and A Timeless Christmas. Nevertheless, in terms of story, HMM definitely wins the weekend.
Meet Me At Christmas stars Catherine Bell and Mark Bellamy, both of whom are no strangers to the Hallmark family. The story follows Joan (Bell) and Charlie (Bellamy), who meet as teenagers on a visit to Snowfall Lodge. After Charlie fails to show at a tree lighting later that night, letting Joan believe she’s been stood up, the two never see each other again until twenty-eight years later when, as luck would have it, Joan’s son and Charlie’s niece are set to marry one another. As they both are forced to work with one another to help the wedding come together, they soon begin to fall for each other once more, realizing that all was not as it seemed.
I thought this film was super cute! Both Bell and Bellamy did a great job in their portrayals, but I have to say I loved watching the actors who play the younger Joan and Charlie just a little bit more. The young Charlie was particularly endearing. From letting young Joan get the last gingerbread donut to his overall awkward, yet charming demeanor, you can’t help but love him. There’s something about their young innocence that makes their love story that much more adorable. Between that and the fact that their “cute meet” is at a snowman building contest, you really can’t get a sweeter, or more festive, romance.
The majority of this movie focuses on adult Joan and Charlie as they rediscover their love for one another. When the two realize their shared past, Joan makes it a point to not share any of it with her son, in fear that he might not take the news well. However, while I sort of understand why Joan didn’t want her son to know how she and Charlie actually met, it seemed sort of overdramatic to keep it a secret for most of the movie. Her son is an adult and if he can’t understand that how she and Charlie met doesn’t change how she fell in love with his father (a.k.a. her deceased husband) then he clearly isn’t ready to get married, am I right?
I would definitely watch this movie again. It’s got a sweet love story and plenty of Christmas for everyone to enjoy. I mean, gingerbread donuts and hot chocolate? Not to mention that this film takes place during a winter wedding! I’m sold! As one of my favorite Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Christmas films yet, I absolutely recommend that you give this one a watch (if you haven’t already)!
