About a month ago, my mom and I planted a garden to see if we could grow some summer vegetables. So far, only the buds of the flowers on the vegetables have bloomed. Apparently, it takes quite a while for the vegetables themselves to grow. As someone who has never gardened before in her life, I had assumed that they would be ready to consume in a month — Obviously, I had a lot to learn.
Luckily for me, my mom has been gardening for years and has much knowledge about all things plants. I think the best part about growing this garden with my mom has been learning all her tips and tricks that she’s picked up over the years. For instance, did you know that when transferring something that’s been in a carton (usually the one that it comes in when you purchase it from the store), you should pull the bottom of the roots apart (just a little bit) before planting them in the soil? I didn’t. Apparently, it helps the plant to absorb the soil better, which in turn will help it grow up healthier.
I have to say that gardening has become one of my favorite things to do. It’s oddly satisfying to see your plants grow over time, knowing that you did it. Well, you and Mother Nature… While it does take work, it feels great to look around the yard and see all these beautiful things that are blooming right in front of you. In a way, it’s like your own personal Garden of Eden. My new morning routine is to go out and let Marnie run around as I sit in the garden and listen to the birds' chirp. It’s honestly the most relaxing thing in the world to me and I highly recommend that everyone grow their own garden. I've fairly confident you'll understand what I'm talking about...
