Is there anything more festive for the Fall season than homemade applesauce? I remember the first time my mom made this for me and my sisters. I was in heaven. It was so warm and delicious that within five minutes, I had downed at least two cups of the whole thing (which may not sound like a lot, but for a ten-year-old, it was a pretty big accomplishment). This is sure to be a hit in your family too, so from my family to yours, enjoy!
INGREDIENTS
8 Macintosh apples
1 cup water
Cinnamon (optional)
Sugar (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place water and apples in large pot and boil until the apples become mushy.
2. Transfer apples from pot to strainer, with a bowl underneath, and using a rolling pin or something steady to pound the apples, push the pin down until the sauce is in the bowl below and you’re left with nothing but the skins and seeds in the strainer.
3. Add cinnamon and sugar to taste. I’ve found that sometimes the sauce needs it and sometimes it doesn’t. It also just depends on how sweet you want it.
Enjoy!
