Recipe of the Week: Churros

My brother is the biggest Churro fan I’ve ever met, which is why my mom found the perfect recipe for making them super fast and fairly easy for when you’re craving that sweet treat. We don’t make the “typical” long churro. Instead, we do them shorter just to make more, but of course, you can make them as long or as short as you want.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup water

2 1/2 tbsp white sugar

1/2 tsp salt

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 quarts oil for frying

1/2 cup white sugar (or to taste)

1 tsp ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons of sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.

2. Heat oil for frying in a deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F. Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using a pastry bag OR you can form them into strips beforehand and carefully drop them into the fryer with a spoon. Fry until golden; drain on paper towels.

3. Combine 1/2 sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Serve warm and enjoy!
