One word: Smores.
That was the highlight of my weekend. Just the other day, I had come to the horrible realization that I had yet to make a S'more. Imagine my shock. The summer is almost over and I hadn’t made a proper s'more. I don’t know about you, but the way to make a proper s'more is to get the fire going and char that baby up. There’s nothing I love more than seeing that fire catch the marshmallow as it bakes it to perfection. When I tell you I had at least five of these bad boys, I say it with nothing but pride.
Aside from smores, the best part about summer is the night. Especially as summer comes to a close, you can hear the crickets chirping as you relax and the weather is almost perfect because the humidity starts to go away (along with the mosquitoes), so nights outside are so peaceful. Whether it’s in your bed with the windows open, or chilling outside with a glass of wine and some pretty white lights for that necessary ambiance to make your summer night perfect, summer nights will always take me back to being a kid. The best summer memories are ones that included night concerts in the park, where my siblings and I could run around and dance, or having friends over, with the fire pit being the only source of light, and talking until it was waaaaayyy to late. Most of all, it was knowing that for the next few weeks, school was nowhere in sight. For a few weeks, we were free to relax and have fun. It’s moments like the ones I had this weekend that bring that summertime fun feeling right back and it’s probably why I’ll continue to chase that feeling until I’m old and can barely walk.
I could live off days like the ones I had this weekend. Surrounded by loved ones, with good food, good conversation and AH-MAZ-ING weather. THIS is the kind of summer I look forward to all year round. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go make another s'more….
