Thanksgiving 2020

I have to say, this Thanksgiving was probably one of the most relaxing ones I’ve had in years. Due to COVID, we were forced to have our Thanksgiving at home. Normally, we would go visit family for the holiday, but with everything going on, we all agreed that it was safer for us to not mix and do our own thing. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely felt off not having our extended family to celebrate with but sometimes you just have to roll with the punches — and this year was no different. With Zoom and FaceTime, we made the best of it as I’m sure many of you did as well!

In terms of preparing for the big day, that came a few days beforehand and my mom and I went all out. We started with the desserts — two different kinds of turnovers, Cherry and Nutella, and a chocolate pie. Then we baked her special meat pies followed by some Thanksgiving treats for little Marnie Mae — mini pumpkin pies made especially for dogs. The night before Thanksgiving was when the rest of the prep came into play. Between getting the turkey ready to setting the table, the goal was to make the whole house feel festive and fun — and not to toot our own horn, but I think we did that and more.

Thanksgiving Day itself was so relaxing. I woke up a little after 8 AM, which never happens as I’m an early riser, put on my bathrobe and made my way to the living room where I plopped myself on the couch, with little Marnie snuggled on my lap, as we watched a Thanksgiving episode of Friends before tuning into the Thanksgiving Day Parade! By that time, everyone was up and it was time for breakfast. As you might imagine, we do it UP for breakfast too. My mom made her special meat pie recipe (my absolute favorite), eggs, hash browns, bacon, and waffles!! Suffice to say, we didn’t touch the turkey until much later that night because breakfast was THAT filling!

In addition to the boys watching their football games, I made sure that we all made time to watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving! With the candles lit and plenty of good food and cheer to go around, this holiday was so nice. Just us enjoying each other’s company. This year more than ever, my family and I have a lot to be thankful for, as I’m sure many of you do too. Even though we couldn’t celebrate the way we would’ve wanted to, we still had the most wonderful time spending the day with each other. When so many people are unable to do that because of the year that we’ve had, I didn’t take any of this for granted. So from my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
